Hills of WV

Sailed the seas I have done.
Battles lost and battles won.
Sometimes scared, sometimes mad.
Sometimes happy and sometimes sad.
My travels have made me wise.
But the hills of WV are always a welcome site for my aching
eyes.

Love is what I’ll feel

You’re heavy on my mind and I cannot sleep.
Heavy are my thoughts, I just want to weep.
Months at a time I must go away.
One day in your arms I hope to stay.
These are things I am called to do.
I hope and pray you can stay true.
Being away from you the months seem to creep by.
Sometimes I ask myself “You do this, why?”
Then this tours end becomes real.
And when I get home and see your face Love is what I’ll feel

Eve of Battle

I stand at the edge of the field on the eve of battle.

Fear running through my veins and muscles so hard my bones begin to rattle.

I have the confidence in knowing that when the horns of battle let loose their
roar.

It will be to unleash ME………THE DOG OF WAR

Living with it when it’s over

As eighteen year old kids we started to train.
In the snow, mud and
rain.
Then one day a country was invaded.
Most of the world stood by as if
sedated.
We eighteen year old kids were now grown and trained well.
Little
did we know we were headed straight to Hell.
We fought like the “DEVIL DOGS”
we were.
Expelled the Iraqi army in a blur.
Not all came back who went
over,
But the hardest part of war is living with it when it’s
over.

Line Haul

Driving truck in the military is a thankless job.
When the townsfolk see us
coming they gather in a mob.
Some yell at us and some cheer.
Some look at
us with awe and some with fear.
They used to use snipers and landmines to take you out.
Now they use IED’S and EFP’s that will kill you with no
doubt.
We bring the infantry ammo, bandages and food to eat.
Without us
they would surely know defeat.
They look down on us because we drive while
they kick, fight and maul.
But for them to do what they do they depend on us,
those who drive the line haul.

March of the Stampede

*Stampede is the call sign of unit I was in in Iraq.*
Over the hills and through the sand.
Through the mountains and across
the land.
When you see the dust cloud coming, do not try to impede.
For
nothing will stop the march of the stampede!

Baghdad

On the road all day and through the night.
Dawn breaks and a city is bathed in light.
Bittersweet is the sight my eyes behold.
For they look upon a city that was beautiful in the days of old.
Now this city is scarred and war torn.
As I look I have to wonder….”What evil has been born?”
All the wasted beauty is a terrible shame.
Signs of new life begin to emerge, but I fear it will never be the
same.
What my eyes see makes my heart sad.
For it is now dead, the once beautiful city called Baghdad.

.45

I’m so full of life and have so much love to give
I may be too far gone to accept love and may not recover enough to
live
I’m the one who made it safe for you to lay in your bed
But I may be the one you find with a slug in the head
All I wish for is to feel alive
But I fear my life will end with the sound of a .45

A Greater Deed

Washing clothes at the laundry point in Iraq.
I can’t help but think of what
I’ll do when I get back.
Although i have a moment to sit and think.
All
this destruction and suffering brings you to the brink.
Seeing all this
Bullshit and being alone definitely turns you to stone.
I’m just sick of
being alone.
I miss my girl, my friends and family and I know they miss me
too.
But the constant mile after mile and being on edge takes alot from
you.
But listen to my words and take heed.
What we do is for a greater
deed.

Red, White and Blue

I still hear and see things I want to forget.
If you ask me I’ll say “I have no regret.”
It is what I feel I must do.
So we can live free and proud under the Red, White and Blue.
